Food pantries in Berrien, Cass counties receive donations during Christmas in June

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- In an effort to keep pantry shelves stocked for those in need during the summer, United Way of Southwest Michigan will be delivering food items collected by the community to 34 pantries Thursday.

The organization says food pantries are often well-stocked during the winter but when summer hits, food donations decrease. They put together an event called "Christmas in June" to help restock those shelves.

The community as well as dozens of local businesses and organizations took part in collecting food including Cook Nuclear Plant and the Coloma Police Department.
