Ford and Walnut intersection improvement project starts Thursday in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -The Ford and Walnut streets intersection improvement project begins Thursday, July 6.

Work includes shifting the curb to better align Walnut Street through the intersection, new sidewalks, curb ramps, bumpouts, trees, and storm sewer work.

A concrete speed hump will also be installed on Walnut Street south of the intersection.

The intersection will be closed for the duration of the project and is expected to be completed by mid-September.

Northbound traffic will detour west on Sample Street, north on Olive Street, then east on Western Avenue before rejoining Walnut Street.

Southbound traffic will reverse the flow. Westbound traffic will detour south on Webster Street, west on Sample Street, north on Olive Street before rejoining Ford Street.

Eastbound traffic will reverse the flow.
