SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Lou Holtz was the keynote speaker at Tuesday's Age of Excellence award luncheon hosted by REAL services.
Holtz led the University of Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish football team to victory in the 1988 National Championship.
The event took place at the Century Center and was a way to celebrate unsung heroes in the area.
Those heroes include spouses, sons, daughters, neighbors, businesses and friends who give their time to care for elderly and low-income in the community.
“I just hope that we can have a good time and the most important thing I want is to really honor the people that give to others. The most important thing we can give of ourselves is our time,” Holtz said.
There was also an award ceremony with awards such as Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Caregiver of the Year and Sgt. Shriver lifetime achievement award.
