Former police officer sentenced to probation for strangulation, domestic battery

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Former Goshen Police officer Joshua Owens was sentenced to one year in prison, with the sentence suspended, on strangulation and domestic battery charges.

Owens was charged with felony counts of domestic battery and strangulation in February 2021.

In November 2021, he accepted a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of domestic battery and strangulation.

He was sentenced to one year on each charge, to be served concurrently.

The judge suspended 364 days of his sentence on each count. He already served one day in jail.

He will serve one year probation.

Owens was placed on unpaid leave in March 2021, after his arrest. Owens resigned from the department in September 2021.
