Former Starke County Jail employee sentenced for fraud involving jail commissary account
ABC 57 SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A Knox woman will have to pay over $20,000 in restitution after a wire fraud conviction.
Court documents show 41-year-old Pamela McDonald previously worked as the "jail matron" at the Starke County Jail. Her duties included paying invoices with funds from the jail commissary account. Federal attorneys say she took money out of that account and sent it to her own personal PayPal account. She camouflaged these transfers as legitimate invoices.
Across at least 19 unauthorized withdrawals, McDonald pocketed at least $20,621.85. She also spent $658.57 with a Stark County debit card to purchase a video gaming chair, a memory foam mattress, and a bed frame for her home.
McDonald was sentenced with 12 months of probation and has been ordered to pay $21,280.42 in restitution.
