ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- A freshman at St. Joseph High School was recently diagnosed with what doctors believe is Ewings Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, that has plagued his health and basketball career.
Before starting chemotherapy, Mattox Williams begged to play in Friday nights game against the Lakeshore Lancers.
ABC57 spoke with Williams after the game as he prepares to take on a new challenge off the court.
“I didn’t shoot my best today but that wasn’t what I was going for. I wasn’t going for the points. I wasn’t going for the stat line. I was to send a message that cancer can’t stop me and it can’t stop my team and it can’t stop my family. So, we weren’t going to let it. Even if we did lose, we won to us because we’re going to come back next year and we’re going to beat them and we’re going to beat them hard,” Williams said.
