Friday morning house fire leaves one person with burns

MICHIANA, Mich. -- New Buffalo Township Fire Department responded to a residential fire around 6 a.m., Friday, where at least one person suffered burn injuries.

Firefighters arrived at the fire in the Village of Michiana to find occupants of the home tending to an injured person in the front yard.

Crews learned the residents were awakened by smoke detectors, observed fire conditions, and called 911.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control shortly after arrival.

Medics arrived and took one person suffering from burns to Franciscan Health Michigan City.

Fire officials say no further formal fire investigation is anticipated.

Officials say the fire appears accidental in nature.
