Fundraiser planning underway for 5-year-old shot in the head

As a 5-year-old Elkhart boy continues to recover from a gunshot wound to the head, the community has been planning a fundraiser to help his family.

Damaris McGhee was shot in his home on August 21st.

The kindergartner is recovering in Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

His uncle, Brian L. Grant, was arrested for the shooting and faces gun possession charges.

A silent auction for the little boy is scheduled for Saturday, September 10th, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Flaunt Boutique in Elkhart’s Easy Shopping Plaza, near Hacienda.

Oil changes, gift certificates, clothing, and other items will be auctioned off to help ease the financial burden the tragedy has placed on the family.

Organizers told ABC 57 attendance for the entire auction is not required; they will contact winners that evening, after the auction, via phone.

Organizers said they are accepting monetary donations and items to be auctioned off through Friday, September 9th, at 7 p.m.
