Gamaliel pushes for immigration reform

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Local voices were added in support of comprehensive immigration reform at Wednesday's "Dream for All" rally.

The rally was held at the Civil Rights Heritage Center in South Bend.

The event began with a cultural dance and went into remarks made by dignitaries from local governments, activists, and church leaders.

A unified message in support of comprehensive immigration reform was aimed at Capitol Hill.

"If we look back to our beginning and realize that the land, which we call our home, in fact belongs to God; we might not be so hasty to criminalize people who by taking one extra step across a line, hoping to find a better life for their families," said Pastor Wendy Bruner.

The group urged lawmakers to make this reform and the pathway to citizenship a reality and in doing so make it a fair, just, and easy process.
