Good-Bye to an old friend

He was a colleague, a friend, a family member and best of all, just a great dog.

Bary has passed away after serving the South Bend Police for 11 years, helping to track down suspects and sniff out bombs.

He and his handler Sergeant Bryan Miller became best friends.

Bary was also like the Miller family pet, going home with Bryan after work.

Police dogs actually do stay in the homes of their handlers when they are off duty.

Miller says Bary had such a great temperament. He could do his job, but he also loved kids and would allow them to pull his tail or his ears without snapping at them.

The department said it best.

Bary, you were a good boy and served us well. You're now 10-42 (End of duty)
