Goshen Indigenous People’s Day Celebration joins First Fridays’ Harvest Festival

GOSHEN, Ind. -- The City of Goshen and First Fridays have partnered to bring the Indigenous People’s Day Celebration to the Harvest Festival on Friday.
The celebration will include music, dance, and cultural presentations at Ignition Garage from 6 to 8 p.m., honoring the Potawatomi and Miami people.
The event is free and open to the public. Activities will take place both inside and outside.
Ignition Garage is located at 120 E. Washington St.
Madalene BigBear, a citizen of the Pokagon Band of the Potawatomi Indians, will serve as the evening’s featured speaker.
She will share insights into how Bodwéwadmi traditions live today.
In cooperation with the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, the Iron Bear Singers will perform pow wow drum songs and dances.
Sterling BigBear III, Ponca/Ihankotonwan, is keeper of the drum, which honors his grandfather.
Organizers say the performers represent several nations in the Chicago Treaty territory and carry blessings across Turtle Island through their songs.
Information tables will include:
- Goshen Public Library will share Indigenous resources and recommended reading.
- Goshen Historical Society will highlight local Native history and preservation.
- Goshen College’s One Circle, a student-led group, will showcase its work addressing injustices toward Indigenous people.
