Gov. Holcomb: 'I should've had that mask on'

During his press conference Monday afternoon, Governor Eric Holcomb addressed the social media post where he was pictured not wearing a face mask while picking up food in Nashville, Indiana, over the weekend.

"It was an unforced error. Completely my fault," Gov. Holcomb said. "It was a beautiful day this past weekend…that is no excuse. I should've had that mask on. I thought I was going to be in there for 30 seconds and paying to get my bag of feed, so to speak. My dinner. And then walk out. It ended up I was asked if I would take a picture with the cashier and her daughter and I did. At that point I should've marched myself out got in my car, got the mask, should've worn it in by the way, got the mask and then took the photo. No one, Abdul, has been harder on myself than myself over this past weekend. Because that would've been the absolute, ideal, perfect opportunity to take that picture, properly social distanced, with a mask on. It would've been the exact photo if you would've taken a photo at a lot of other events when I am wearing my mask. Made the mistake of walking in a restaurant and picking up my dinner without having a mask on. So, now, having said that, this should be a reminder, not just for me to break old, bad habits, this should be a reminder for everyone, especially folks who are voluntarily seeking to break the recommendations or the rules. Again wearing a mask is a recommendation, something we highly recommend. I'll be subscribing to 100% of the time, not just 99% of the time.
