Governor Pence declares this week Blood Donation Week across Indiana

This week is National Blood Donation Week and people across Michiana will have the opportunity to help save a life.

This is the first ever blood donation week. Governor Mike Pence signed a proclamation and made September 10th Blood Donation Day in Indiana.

Dr. Daliah Wachs started the initiative earlier this summer with the American Red Cross. They asked each state governor to declare the service week in their home state.

“The period from Memorial Day to Labor Day is the period we see the need for blood going out to trauma patients,” said Rodney Wilson, External Communications Manager at the American  Red Cross.

They want more communities nationwide to realize the constant need for blood supply.

“Every single day it’s happening in our community, that patients need blood,” said Wilson. “It’s really a quick and easy process, about an hour of your time. It’s not painful and it’s easy to do,” said Wilson.

Several blood drives are being set up this week across Michiana. Locations in our area are below.
