MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Those who want to honor and remember Mishawaka teacher and coach Gregg Smith are invited to Steele Stadium Friday evening. Smith died in an accident earlier this week.
The Mishawaka High School teacher’s death was a shock to the Cavemen community.
Steele Stadium's lights will be on in honor of Smith from 7 - 9 p.m.
“He’s had quite a few former players reach out and we thought this would be a great opportunity for those people to come and pay their respects and we think Greg would’ve appreciated something like this for those kids,” Associate Principal Chad Brugh said.
Smith was known for his contributions on and off the field.
He was an alum of the high school and wanted to return to his alma mater with hopes to make a difference in the classroom every day.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Life Church at 11593 McKinley Highway East, Osceola. The memorial service will follow.
Smith's services will be live streamed on the Facebook page of New Life Church.
