ORIGINAL STORY:

Dowagiac police have taken a man into custody after he fired a gunshot inside a second floor apartment in Dowagiac.

It happened around 9:30 P.M. Sunday evening at the 29,000 block of Amerihost Drive, inside the Eagle's Wood Apartments complex.

Officers responded after receiving a call about an angry man outside of an apartment, who possibly had a handgun.

When police arrived, they weren't able to locate anyone outside. The man was inside his second floor apartment. Officers could hear arguing and yelling inside the unit, then heard a gunshot.

Police set up a perimeter around the unit and used a patrol car PA system to ask the man to come outside.

Officers evacuated neighboring apartments and sent residents to the Baymont Inn & Suites across the street.

Inside the apartment was the man, his sister and three children.

Officials were able to make contact with the man's wife. She arrived on scene and was able to convince the suspect to come outside after talking with him on the phone.

The man has been taken into custody and will face charges. The Cass County SWAT team assisted police.

All evacuated residents were allowed back inside their apartments.

Police cleared the man's sister and three children. After a quick search inside the unit, officers located more weapons.

Officers believe some sort of argument unfolded. They are obtaining a search warrant and will continue investigating.
