NOW: Habitat for Humanity builds new homes by Notre Dame campus

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Notre Dame alumni joined Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County to build two new homes.

The third group of Notre Dame alumni put sheathing on the walls, on July 24, doing their part in a three-to-four-month home building process.

Notre Dame recently donated four lots on Turnock St., just south of Notre Dame campus, as well as pledging $250,000 to Habitat, $50,000 per year over the course of five years.

These funds allow Habitat of St. Joseph County to build five houses over five years with the Notre Dame Alumni Association.

President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County, Jim Williams, spoke with Gordy Young about their efforts to provide for the community.

"It's our opportunity to help different families, but also to get people engaged with an important topic: housing affordability," said Williams. "I should say, the lack of housing affordability."

It's clear Habitat's way of helping the community by building homes puts a smile on Williams' face.

With fourteen years in the business and counting, he's sure to see more homes from the ground up to come.
