Hair Kutz for Kids giving free haircuts

Parents of school children know that getting ready for back to school time can be hectic and expensive. A group of South Bend barbers are at work to make that a little easier.

From 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Monday, barbers will offer free haircuts to students at the Monroe Circle Community Center.

“They look forward to getting a fresh cut. They got the new clothes, new shoes, everything, the books, supplies and everything. They just need that cherry on top which is a fresh cut from some of the best barbers in South Bend,” said Charles Jackson who is a barber involved in the event.

In addition to the haircuts, backpacks full of school supplies will be given out for as long as supplies last. Lunch will also be provided.

For local barbers it is something they feel they can do to make a difference. It is expected about 400 kids will get haircuts.

“We like giving back. Me and a couple other barbers around town just like giving back so throughout the year we’ll see it coming back to us and God’s going to bless so everything is good,” Jackson added.
