Halloween trick-or-treat times

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- ABC 57 News spoke with police officers about the safety of  trick-or-treating this year. They said there are a lot of safety issues that parents do not typically think about.

Officers said they are expecting thousand of kids to fill the streets Wednesday night.

Trick or Treat times are as follows:

Saint Joseph County, South Bend, and Mishawaka: 5:00 to 7:00 at night.

Elkhart - 6:00 to 8:00 at night.

Police urge parents to take their children to familiar neighborhoods and to travel in groups. They also say to wear highly visible costumes with reflective panels or wear a costume that doesn't block their eyes.

"You just want to make sure that when you and your kid to go out, you send him with a responsible sibling. You should also make sure they are illuminated and that people can see them," said Sergeant Ross.

Ross said the although there will be extra activity Wednesday night, they are not putting any extra officers to be on-duty,
