Hazardous material spilled in Starke County, public asked to avoid area

ABC 57

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. -- The Starke County Sheriff's Office is advising the public to avoid the area of S.R. 10, between US 35 and Range Road, due to an active hazardous materials situation on the roadway.

Authorities say the situation involves an oil spill, and, at this time, there is no immediate threat to the health or safety of the public.

"However, in the interest of public safety and efficient cleanup, we ask all motorists to seek alternative routes and avoid the affected area until further notice," the SCSO said.

"Authorities are currently on scene and actively working to contain and clean up the spill. We ask for your patience and cooperation as crews work to resolve the situation."
