Hit-and-run leaves 53-year-old pedestrian injured Tuesday morning

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to C.R. 24 just east of C.R. 9 in Elkhart around 7:45 a.m., Tuesday, for a report of a woman being hit by a vehicle which drove off afterwards.

The report states a 53-year-old Elkhart woman was walking on C.R. 24 east of C.R. 9 facing traffic.

The woman told deputies she stepped off the road's edge for a passing vehicle, described as a dark colored SUV or a minivan.

The vehicle failed to yield to her and the report states she was struck in the upper right arm by the passenger side mirror of the passing vehicle.

The woman reported she was in pain and the mirror had folded back when it struck her.

She said the driver slowed briefly then continued east failing to return to the scene.

She declined medical treatment.

The woman said another motorist honked at the vehicle shortly after the crash occurred.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Lt. Casey Lehman at 574-891-2372.
