Hobart Common Council approves property tax abatement for 500-acre Amazon data center

HOBART, Ind. -- On Wednesday night after 90 minutes of public comment, mostly against Amazon's 500-acre expansion in Hobart, the city's common council unanimously voted 6- to approve the tax abatement for the expansion.

The project is part of Amazon's additional $15 billion investment in Northern Indiana.

Hobart Mayor Josh Huddlestun previously said if everything moves ahead, construction is expected to begin in spring 2026.

The resolutions approved include:

Resolution 2026-02:

  • A Resolution of the Common Council of the City of Hobart, Indiana, Approving Real Property Tax Abatement with respect to Investments made by Amazon Data Services, Inc.

Resolution 2026-03:

  • A Resolution of the Common Council of the City of Hobart, Indiana, Approving Real Property Tax Abatement with respect to Investments made by Hobart Owner LLC.

Resolution 2026-04:

  • A Resolution of the Common Council of the City of Hobart, Indiana, approving a Form of Enterprise Information Technology Exemption Agreement and Community Enhancement Agreement with Amazon Data Services, Inc.
