Home of the blue and gold going green

NOTRE DAME, Ind.-- It looks like the home of the blue and gold is going green.

Tuesday, Notre Dame showed off some of its new electric vans.

ABC 57 got a look at two of the university's newest additions, which have been in use for about a month now.

Notre Dame installed seven or eight charging stations around campus to accommodate those vehicles.

The vans are specifically designated for use by the university's maintenance department.

Paul Kemph with the university said, " These will go with our staff that does maintenance in campus buildings so roughly 9.5 million square feet of what we maintenance."

The electric vans have a top speed of 25 miles an hour and can travel 40 miles on a single charge.
