ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Health officials are hoping to establish a reserve of healthcare workers due to the growing need for medical resources during the coronavirus outbreak.
The Indiana State Department of Health sent out a survey to people with experience in medicine in an effort to find workers who can provide relief for healthcare providers.
In Michigan, similar efforts are being made. ABC57 got the chance to speak with Gillian Conrad, the Communications Manager for the Berrien County Health Department, and she says that volunteers are crucially needed.
“There is kind of a medical reserve volunteer corps in Michigan that is being activated across the state,” Conrad said. “Governor Whitmer also announced over the weekend that there is a new volunteer website where folks can go on a register as volunteers with skills and whatever they can contribute to this response.”
Conrad said that the community must work together in order to stop the spread of COVID-19.
