NOW: Indiana Senate Bill 76 moves to Governor Mike Braun’s desk

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Immigration has been a big topic nationally as many changes are happening to laws and many are being deported daily.

One Leader from the Goshen Democratic Party tells ABC57 they are going above the state level of government and are actively taking legal action to try and stop these immigration bills from going forward.

Lisa Koop, Director of Legal Services National Immigrant Justice Center, says, “We're trying to hold the government accountable through litigation, and we argued that case before the Seventh Circuit last week, and are waiting for a decision, and hopefully this is a tool. This is a protective tool that we can offer to our community. Indiana is included in this lawsuit.”

The Seventh Circuit hears appeals from Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. The current Indiana Senate Bill 76 states that state and local governments must cooperate with federal ICE authorities.

Democratic party members state their goal is to put an end to this bill that has already passed the Senate and now move forward to the House.
