NOW: Trick-or-Treating meets the wild at Zoo Boo

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Potawatomi Zoo held the second day of its annual Zoo Boo Halloween event.

"I saw a couple of the kids were dressed up like little animals. One was a rhino, and one was a lion, and you could tell that they made them themselves," said Josh Sisk, the executive director of Potawatomi Zoo.

The event allows families to dress up in costumes to trick-or-treat along the zoo's Treat Trail.

"We decided to spread it out over two weekends. So that way we could give more people an opportunity to come to Zoo Boo, but it also spreads out, makes parking easier, makes the Treat Trail better," said Sisk.

This is the first weekend where "Princesses & Heroes." Character actors in costumes like Rapunzel and Belle greeted children around the grounds and posed for photos.

"Being a nonprofit, this is a fundraiser for us. We're gonna be opening up the Big Cat Tracks next year, so it'll be a whole new expansion of the zoo," said Sisk

The day included multiple activities for zoo goers, "where can you come and feed a giraffe, where can you see a rhino, ride the haunted train, and also be able to get your candy? We're really about conservation and education."

Zoo Boo continues Sunday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
