INDOT, local street departments prepare for first snowfall

Street departments across Michiana are preparing for the first snowfall of the season. At the South Bend Streets Department on Friday, crews prepared the trucks for spraying salt and plowing snow.

Greg Brucker, the General Foreman of the South Bend Streets Department, discussed their plan.

"Well, we have 31 plus vehicles available to us to plow. Other departments can come in and help as needed with some equipment. We also have several pick-up trucks with plows on them. We have approximately 5,000 tons of salt available to us right now here on premise.  We also have approximately 30,000 gallons of beet juice available to spray with. We make our own salt brine that we mix with the beet juice to apply to the road surfaces prior to a snow event. So, I think we're ready," said Brucker.

Doug Moats from the Indiana Department of Transportation stopped by the ABC57 studio to discuss the preparations for state roads. Watch his interview above.
