MIDDLEBURY, Ind. -- INDOT (Indiana Department of Transportation) held a Public Informational Meeting Wednesday at the Middlebury Public Library to introduce possible future design plans for S.R. 13 to the residents, and to listen to feedback.

According to INDOT, S.R. 13 needs improved pavement, better drainage, ADA standard sidewalks, and a lane for buggies.

INDOT Public Relations Director, Northeast District, Hunter Petroviak explains the proposed changes "We know that things fail over time. They need replaced over time. So, it's kind of the lifespan of a road, we know it's going to need replaced... so we need to make sure that we make these improvements, make these updates, to make sure that we're providing for the people who live here in Middlebury."

As to why public meetings are important so early in the process, Petroviak said "We want to hear and talk to the people that are... using this road every day. We want to make sure that they... like the plan that we're bringing to the table, and they might even see something, or suggest something that we could change to... help them better use the road...  comments are super important."

If you were not able to attend the meeting, information will soon be available at INDOT Fort Wayne, where the presentation will be linked.

Residents from Middlebury will also be able to submit comments to INDOT until May 20, 2026. Everyone is also welcome to send public comment by mail, email, phone call or their website INDOT4U.com
