Man dies, others are hurt in crash at CR 17 and SR 120 in Elkhart County
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- One person died in a four vehicle crash at CR 17 and SR 120 Tuesday afternoon, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department.
Officials say at approximately 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, a 2007 Saturn Aura XE was pulling out of a private drive on CR 17 northeast bound as a 2018 International box truck was traveling south on CR 17.
Authorities say the driver of the Saturn Aura, 33-year-old Paul Throesch of Goshen, collided with the box truck operated by Jared Rose, 23, from La Porte, Indiana.
According to officials, Throesch’s Saturn Aura pushed Rose’s box truck into the northbound lane of CR 17 where it was struck by two vehicles traveling north -- a Chevrolet Envoy and a Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Envoy, Vincent Spirito, 59, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. He was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Explorer refused treatment at the scene.
Throesch was taken to Memorial Hospital for lacerations to the face and fractures to the arms and legs, officials say.
Rose refused medical treatment for left arm pain.
