Irish come out strong in the second half to beat the Boilermakers 31-24

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.-- It was a close one for the Irish Saturday night who fought hard in the second half to earn a win over the Boilermakers with a final score of 31-24.

Purdue got off to a quick start with a touchdown early in the first quarter.

Boilermaker quarterback Rob Henry made a fifteen yard pass to wide receiver Akeem Hunt for the score.

Getting off to that fast start allowed Purdue to keep the momentum through the first half to hold off the Irish from putting any points on the board.

Early in the second quarter, Paul Griggs completed a 47-yard field goal for Purdue leaving Notre Dame stunned and working to play catch-up at a score of 10-0.

Right before halftime Irish kicker Kyle Brindza came through with a 20-yard field goal with 44 seconds to go, leaving the score 10-3 at the half.

In the second half, Cam McDaniels pulled through and carried the ball to the end zone to tie things up. Then, quarterback Tommy Rees completed an 82-yard pass to DaVaris Daniels to get ahead of Purdue for the first time of the night.

In the last minutes of the game, Purdue turned over the ball to Bennett Jackson, who took it to the end zone for the game winning touchdown.
