ISP investigating inmate death at Westville Correctional Facility

WESTVILLE, Ind. -- The Indiana Department of Corrections confirmed to ABC57 that the Indiana State Police are currently investigation the death of an inmate at Westville Correctional Facility.

The inmate, Edrick Young, was taken to a hospital in St. Joseph County on Sept. 14 where he died.

ABC57 has reached out to the coroner for Young's cause of death but have yet to hear back.

According to IDOC's Incarcerated Inmate Database, Young was serving a prison sentence for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Death.

He was sentenced in 2023 to 8 years in prison with 2 years suspended. However, IDOC's site lists his projected release date as the same day he was hospitalized.
