Indiana State Capitol Police

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Indiana State Capitol Police announced K9 Krieg will retire after serving the state for a decade in multiple capacities including as an explosive detection dog.

Police say Krieg has helped enhance safety for several high-profile events, including the Indy 500, Indiana State Fair, Monumental Marathon, countless events at the Indiana State Capitol, and large sporting events at Notre Dame, IU and Purdue.

Authorities say most days you could find Krieg with his partner Corporal Michael Sarchet patrolling the Indiana Statehouse, Indiana Government Center, or other downtown state properties.

Officials say Krieg was the first ISP Explosive Detection Dog trained in-house by Sarchet.

Police add in his first year Krieg passed the ATF's National Odor Recognition Test.

Krieg will spend his retirement living at home with the Sarchet family.
