ISP seizes 11 pounds of cocaine from Knox man during snowy traffic stop
ABC 57 PORTER COUNTY, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police reports a trooper was traveling on S.R. 49 on Monday when he observed a Jeep Grand Cherokee speeding despite the snow and ice-covered road.
Police say the area where this occurred was also a construction zone.
The trooper then attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver initially failed to stop before pulling over on the ramp to US 30.
The driver was identified as 35-year-old Daniel Aguilar Ramirez, of Knox.
Police say Ramirez presented a California driver's license to troopers.
Authorities say Ramirez gave inconsistent statements as to his route of travel and destination.
A K-9 then conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle and alerted police to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.
The report states a search of the vehicle revealed an Amazon box containing four vacuum-sealed, brick-shaped packages, which troopers say is consistent with packaging used in drug trafficking.
Troopers then conducted a field test which came back positive for cocaine.
Ramirez was arrested and taken to the Porter County Jail where he is being held on an immigration detainer for ICE as it was determined that Ramirez is an illegal alien.
Ramirez is also charged with Dealing Cocaine, a Level 2 Felony.
