Jewish Federation hosting art show to aid Ukraine

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley is gathering with local artists for an art show to support Ukrainians.

The free art show will be held on April 3 from 2 to 5 p.m. at 3202 Shalom Way in South Bend.

Sunflower-themed artwork by South Bend artist Jim Goodkin and paintings by artists Michelle Engel and Nektaria Matthews will be on sale.

"The sunflower is Ukraine's national flower and has become a symbol of support for the country. It will be the subject of all my artwork for sale at the event, and half of all artists' proceeds will go directly to the Jewish Federation's Ukrainian relief efforts," said local artist Jim Goodkin.

"Our Federation has committed to raising $18,000, over $10,000 of which has already been raised and is supporting the most urgent needs on the ground in Ukraine right now," shared Moshe Kruger, Executive Director at the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley. "We're hoping this art show will get us closer to our goal of providing direct and immediate aid to Ukrainian families who are desperate for relief and resources."

If you cannot attend the art show, the Jewish Federation encourages community members to donate direct aid to the country online.

Donations made through the Jewish Federation’s website provides direct aid in the following ways:

  • Securing local Ukrainian communities and their institutions
  • Maintaining critical welfare services
  • Assisting internally displaced people in multiple locations
  • Helping Ukrainian refugees make Aliyah to Israel
  • Launching an emergency Hotline
  • Securing temporary housing for people in transit
  • Purchasing satellite phones to maintain communications across the region
  • Securing five Jewish schools and training staff to manage crisis needs
