John Deere expands to Northwest Indiana with $125M investment, additional 150 jobs

LOWELL, Ind. -- Indiana Gov. Mike Braun announced Wednesday that John Deere is planning to expand operations to the Lowell and Hebron area. with a state-of-the-art distribution center in the area.

Braun says the new plans would bring 150 jobs to Northwest Indiana.

“Our state's location as the Crossroads of America makes it the ideal destination for companies of all sizes to serve customers across the U.S. and around the world," said Gov. Braun. "John Deere’s expansion to Indiana is a testament to our business-first environment, our robust manufacturing sector, and our strong pipeline of skilled talent.”

The investment is said to be worth $125 million. This will include building and equipping a 1.2 million-square-foot warehouse and distribution center on 234 acres, according to Braun.

Braun also noted based on the company’s job creation plans, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation committed an investment in John Deere of up to $2.5 million in the form of incentive-based tax credits.

The incentives are said to be performance-based. This means the company is eligible to claim state benefits once investments are made and employees are hired.

Braun stated Lake County is also offering incentives to support the project.
