Joy Ride kills two children, 13- and 3-year-old

A Mississippi neighborhood is mourning the loss of two children killed in a joy riding accident.

The wreck occurred late Friday night when one of the boys took his mother's car keys and got behind the wheel of the car.

Three of his friends got in the vehicle with him and were driving down the road.

They boy saw a police check-point, and tried to avoid it by running off the road and hitting a light pole.

“One of the officers from Mississippi Highway Patrol attempted to make contact with the vehicle, catch up to the vehicle, and stop the vehicle to see what the reason was for eluding the checkpoint.  In the course of him catching up to the vehicle, the vehicle ran off the road and overturned. Unfortunately, two children lost their lives as a result of the accident,” says Mississippi Highway Patrol Sergeant Andy West.

One of the children killed in the crash was only 3-years-old and the other was just thirteen.

The 13-year-old's twin sister survived the accident with only minor injuries, while the 9-year-old driver is still in the hospital in critical condition.
