Juvenile arrested for allegedly carrying a handgun without a license
ELKHART, Ind. -- A 16-year-old was arrested for carrying a handgun without a license Friday morning on Eden Street, according to Elkhart Police.
Around 11 a.m., an officer observed three people walking through a parking lot north of Energy Oil from S. Main Street towards Eden Street, then into an alley off Aldrich Court.
The officer drove north on Eden and approached the area.
Before the officer could get out of his vehicle, all three ran down Aldrich Court towards Main Street.
Additional officers responded to the scene.
A 16-year-old was located underneath a stairway in the 1300 block of Eden Street.
A handgun was found near the juvenile, police said.
He was taken into custody on a preliminary charge of carrying a handgun without a license.
Officers found another person from the group, an adult, but he was not taken into custody.
