BENTON HARBOR, Mich – The Benton Harbor Area Schools school board met on Tuesday evening to give updates to critical matters facing the district.
The school district faces a decision about hiring a new Superintendent and solidifying details of the advisory committee with the State of Michigan.
The school board voted to extend the Superintendent search to December 16th.
The school board said they plan to finalize details of the advisory committee and it could be announced at a meeting later in October but they did not release details to the media.
Members of the community urged the school board to keep the community involved throughout the process.
“It’s very important for the district to make sure that you’re reaching out to the community,” Benton Harbor resident Elnora Gavin said.
The school district has until October 17thto fill the position on the school board left vacant after the death of President Stephen Mitchell.
The school board said they will receive applications for the vacant school board position until October 11th.
