La Grange Sheriff's Department welcomes two new deputies

The LaGrange County Sheriff's Department has two new deputies - Chris VanGompel and Chris Smith.

Deputy VanGompel has been employed at the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department as a Jail Officer since July of 2013. He is a graduate of Angola High School where he was a Presidential Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. VanGompel then attended Trine University in Angola from 1997-2001.

Deputy Chris Smith has been employed at the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department as a Jail Officer since January of 2015. He is a graduate of Lakeland High School where he was successful in football and wrestling. Smith is currently attending Indiana Tech where he was placed on the Dean’s List studying Criminal Justice. Chris Smith was also a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from 2010-2014. Deputy Smith recently completed the LaGrange County Reserve Academy as a member of the LaGrange Police Department.
