La Porte deputies investigating fatal pedestrian crash

The La Porte County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle around 10:25 p.m. Tuesday night.

According to deputies, a 26-year-old man was driving north on SR39 when 36-year-old Steven Kinola Jr ran into the road into the path of his vehicle.

The driver was unable to stop to avoid hitting the pedestrian.

The driver, who was on his way to work, tested negative for alcohol, according to deputies. Kinola had a BAC of .18-percent.

Kinola was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say the driver is not suspected of wrongdoing and Kinola's BAC is believed to be a factor in the incident.

The accident remains under investigation.
