Lack of applicants leave Warsaw beaches without lifeguards this summer
ABC 57 WARSAW, Ind. -- Community members are being warned to swim at their own risk at Warsaw beaches after the Parks Department announced there will be no lifeguards this summer.
This includes Center Lake Beach and Pike Lake Beach for the 2026 season.
The city says the reason no lifeguards will be employed is the lack of applicants, despite the efforts to promote the positions through job postings, contacting local schools, and social media.
The city added they only received two applicants, both of whom wanted part-time hours. Officials say industry safety standards require one lifeguard for every 25 swimmers in the water.
The Warsaw Parks Department currently offers a wage of $17 an hour, and provides all required training and certifications, uniforms, and other necessary equipment.
The city added, despite the circumstances, they will continue to offer well-maintained beaches with clearly marked, roped-off swimming areas.
Swimming areas will also have "Swim at Your Own Risk" signs posted.
