Lake Michigan College holding FAFSA workshops
Changes to the FAFSA process and an earlier start date have students scrambling. And Lake Michigan College is trying to get the word out so you don't miss out on crucial financial aid.
Lake Michigan college officials are concerned students aren't aware the FAFSA application date has already started.
It used to be January 1. But it moved up three months earlier to October 1st. They say that new date is significant because it allows families to use info from their latest tax return instead of having to estimate the prior year's income. To get as many students helped out as possible, LMC is hosting an event tonight to help students file, whether they are attending the college or not.
"They also can spend that time looking for other scholarship opportunities and frankly doing the best kind of college shopping," said Barbara Craig, Vice President of Regional Campuses. "Finding the best fit for them. Often community colleges are the most cost efficient."
That event is tonight at the Niles campus at 6:30pm, room 116. It's free and open to the public, whether you plan on attending Lake Michigan college or not.
