Lakeland Hospital held a mass casualty incident drill Tuesday to prepare staff for real-world scenarios.
Students from Niles portrayed patients for the drill.
"We practice MCI they're called, a major casualty incident, a patient surge, we had a hostile action, an active attacker where someone came into the ER and attacked the staff and they learned to work through that," said Al DiBrito, Security and Emergency Preparedness Manager.
Staff at Lakeland had to treat wounds, perform 'surgeries,' reconnect families, and take down the shooter.
