Lakeland Medical Center welcomes first baby of the New Year in SW Michigan

ST.JOSEPH, Mich.—Lakeland Medical Center welcomed southwest Michigan’s first baby of 2019.

Isai Balcazar was born at 8:58 p.m. on Monday, January 1, weighing 8 lbs., 5 oz., and measuring 18 ¾ in. long.

Isai’s parents, Enrique and Itzel, live in Hartford, Michigan.

The hospital kept with tradition in gifting the first baby of the year with the biggest bear donated by the South Bend Airport’s Bears in the Air Program. The parents also received a gift basket of baby items valued at $100.
