Leaf burning causes house fire

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A home was nearly destroyed after a leaf fire got out of control.
The fire happened on Sundown Road in the southwest area of St. Joseph County around 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Nobody was hurt, and crews say nobody was inside the house at the time of the fire.
The house did appear to be to be up for sale.
Fire officials want everyone to learn that burning leaves at this time can be dangerous, especially with high winds.
"This is not a time to be burning leaves," says Dale Wedel, the Batalion Chief with Southwest Central Fire Department.
Crews say they responded to four calls on Monday about out of control leaf fires in St. Joseph County.
