Target to hire 75, FedEX 100 in South Bend for the holidays
The seasonal positions are able to provide steady and reliable work. Super Target near University Drive in Granger plans to bring in 75 holiday workers.
Target is set to hire over 100,000 thousand holiday helpers.
“We see a lot of people that are looking for extra work around the holidays,” said Lindsay Hover, Store Team Leader at local Super Target. “They want to be able to have some extra income for their families and their holiday needs.”
Hover said it’s typical for the store to see a lot of people looking to pick up secondary work throughout the holiday season. And Target is not the only local store providing this opportunity for more work.
FedEx is looking to hire 100 people in South Bend for their ground department. The company is looking to bring in about 50,000 workers during the season.
However, Walmart is making news. The popular retail chain said it will not hire holiday helpers this year.
According to the press release below, Walmart is going to give more hours to current employees rather than hire thousands more.
The US Department of Labor reports that job openings are at an all time high with over six million positions available.
Manufacturing had nearly 400,000 openings; construction 232,000; education and health 1.1 million; finance and insurance 270,000; retail 625,000.
Hover said there’s a variety of positions open for the holiday helpers. People may be stocking the shelves, keeping the cash out lines low, and helping out in the backroom.
“During the holidays we’ve always worked with candidates that are looking for that extra income,” said Mike Stevens, who heads up Express Employment Professionals in Mishawaka.
Holiday helpers could be college students back from break, people in need of a little more money, and other seasonal workers, according to Stevens.
“A lot of companies during the holiday season do pick up especially if they have any type of shipping or warehouse,” Stevens said. “Those types of companies do pick up in the holiday season and they need help just as any retail store would.”
Stevens said his six offices are very busy right now, what he said is out of the norm for the career matching industry.
“We have a lot of jobs available right now so if you’re looking for that holiday pay come into the offices,” Stevens said.
Super Target will be hosting a seasonal hiring event from October 13 to October 15, at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Click here for more information.
