NOW: Local churches gather for annual Supermarket Sweep donation event

WARSAW, Ind. -- Some local churches are partnering up with Grace College to collect donations for those in need, and they're doing it with a fun twist based on the popular 90's game show.

Now in its 15th year, Supermarket Sweep is continuing its mission of helping provide non-perishable food, diapers, and more to those who need it the most.

Originally, this annual tradition took place in November to provide relief during the holiday season, but after a while, it was clear there was more of a need in the early months of the calendar year.

"This event was a brain baby from my childhood, I remember watching the show Supermarket Sweep where people would just get to run through the grocery store, and I thought, 'I want to do that'" said Kearstin Criswell, Mission Coordinator at Mission Point Community Church.

Grace College sophomore, Damaris Salcedo, said the event gives her and others from the school a chance to build camaraderie.

"My favorite part is seeing students that you might not see come out of their shell and just want to help people and have that love in their heart," said Salcedo.

In 2025, the total amount donated was over $41k. Volunteers hope that with more churches involved this year, they can surpass the previous year's donations.
