Local junior golf tour begins first round today
SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- Grab your clubs, golf balls, and tees--golf season is here and finally underway!
Today marks the first day and match in the 2020 season for the Lifestyle Junior Golf Tournament.
Erskine Park Golf Course is planning to host 161 eager golfers Tuesday as the course was shut down to allow these kids the ultimate tournament experience.
Lifestyle Junior Golf is a locally run tournament who is working to give kids both locally and regionally a "Masters" like experience.
Professionalism, sportsmanship, and a fun time out with friends and family is what continually brings back and adds new faces to the tee sheet.
The tournament has grown substantially over the past 10 years under the guidance of golf tour director, John Fischer.
A dedicated golfer himself, Fischer has taken his love for golf and teaching and curated the Lifestyle brand to help bring kids throughout the area opportunities to join in on the sport he loves.
Kids ages 8-19 are able to sign-up, there is even a collegiate level now for students who attend college somewhere in the United States.
The match Tuesday, at Erskine Park Golf Course, is the first of 8 tournament days through the summer.
After the regular season golfers are able to participate in a final tournament where those who place high enough are able to then go to the Ryder Cup style championship.
Most recently there have been changes and introductions to new safety measures that the Lifestyle staff, kids, and spectators are being asked to follow.
The staff will be wearing gloves throughout the tournament day.
There have been markers sprayed onto the course to help maintain physical distancing.
Erskine Golf Course has also implemented new safety measures such as offering gloves, masks, and hand sanitizer to their customers.
The course has also put up a plexiglass barrier in the pro shop to help keep not only the patrons healthy and happy but the staff working their as well.
