SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Leaders, advocates, and neighbors from across northern rural Indiana came together for breakfast at the Four Winds Casino and Hotel Monday to honor agricultural workers.
During the breakfast, Mayor Muller declared March 23 through March 31 will be Farmers and Farmworkers Awareness Week.
Awards were given out to individuals for Farmworker of the Year, Youth Farmworker of the Year, Partner of the Year, Farmer of the Year.
Laptops were also given to 23 youth farmworkers to help them with their education and work.
Jesusa Rivera, Proteus Senior Career Coach, stated, "If you don't know what to do in regard to farmworkers, if you don't know how you can support them. You can support them by saying thank you. You can support them by standing by them. You can support them by changing the laws that are here in Indiana and across the other states."
