Man accused of trying to steal vehicle in Marshall County

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. – A man was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office reported.

At 10:49 a.m. on Saturday, police were called to the 3000 block of Fir Road for a vehicle theft in progress.

The person making the report said an unknown man had gotten into the vehicle and was trying to drive away.

When officers got to the scene, they found a passenger car stuck in the mud in a front yard.

Witnesses directed officers to a residence in the 4000 block of 3B Road. Officers were eventually allowed inside the residence and later detained 41-year-old Jason M. Canfield of South Bend.  

Canfield was identified by witnesses as the man who tried to steal the vehicle, reports said.

He was taken to the Marshall County Jail on the charge of theft.

He is being held on a $3,000 cash bond.
