Man arrested after allegedly threatening neighbor with rifle
La Porte County Jail: Donald H. Tharp LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A man was arrested following a weekend incident where he allegedly threatened his neighbor with a rifle following verbal altercation.
The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to an address in the 2500 east block of CR 500 South around 10 p.m., Saturday, regarding a neighborhood disturbance.
Deputies learned a man, later identified as 55-year-old Donald H. Tharp, had allegedly exited his home while armed with a rifle and threatened at least one person.
Investigators then spoke with the 37-year-old victim who said he was hosting a group of friends for a bonfire.
The victim said Tharp had left his home several times to speak with him and a friend.
The victim said Tharp exited his home again, this time armed with a rifle, and threatened him before going back inside.
Authorities attempted to contact Tharp with no success.
A search warrant was applied for and obtained before the Emergency Response Team was brought in, at which point their attempts to contact Tharp also failed.
The team then made entry into Tharp's home where he was taken into custody. Authorities also recovered the alleged rifle.
Tharp was taken to La Porte County Jail.
Tharp is charged with Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony.
Tharp was later released after a cash bond was posted on his behalf.
